Like a fine wine, Jimeoin is one act that just keeps getting better with age.

The Irish born and Melbourne local who rose to fame in the 1990s with his self-titled television program has consistently been a crowd favourite amongst Australian audiences and across the globe, performing at sell-out shows throughout Edinburgh, New Zealand and Montreal.

Back in town for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Jimeoin’s latest show entitled What?! is another outstanding performance from the veteran comedian.

A fresh show, with a brand new batch of anecdotes that depict the changes to Jimeoin’s life since those early ‘90s cooking ventures with Bob Franklin. A wife, four children, and the mundane necessities of life make for a hilarious evening out that everyone can relate to.

Jimeoin connects with his audience, he plays upon the things that are most frustrating, or sometimes even soul-destroying, and he makes them funny. He makes us laugh at our own inadequacies by bringing to light his own. There is no malice within Jimeoin’s act, the butt of the joke is always himself and he encourages us to laugh at him and at ourselves in turn.

Jimeoin’s thick Northern Ireland accent that has proved impossible to shake is the premise of the show that brought the jam-packed Athenaeum theatre’s audience to tears of laughter. Without a pause or a jitter, the opening night went off without a hitch and this seasoned professional kept the pace up with a scarily accurate Robert Deniro impression and even a musical interlude.

Jimeoin, regardless of whether people understand what you’re actually saying, funny always translates.
